Cultural events, cyclathon to mark World Tourism Week

CHANDIGARH: Starting with the 60-km cyclathon to promote bicycle tourism in the city followed by a heritage walk, the week-long World Tourism Week would see a galaxy of cultural and entertaining events unfold between September 25 and October 1. The seven-day extravaganza would have classical-cum-fusion singer, Subhash Ghosh, Pakistan's Raga Boyz, besides Punjabi singer Sherry Maan perform. Poster and quiz competitions would also be held during the period.

CITCO general manager (tourism), A K Malhotrasaid that a 60-km-long big cyclathon would kick off the World Tourism Week on September 25. "120 national level cyclists are going to participate in the mega event and 3,000 other cyclists would participate. They would start pedaling from the Matka Chowk till the secretariat and would cover this distance repeatedly till they complete 60 kms. And on September 27 at 7 in the morning, there would be a heritage tourism walk which will see prominent citizens from the city participating. It would start from the Open Hand Monument and culminate at the government museum and art gallery via the martyrs' memorial and the Bougainvillea Garden," he said.

Malhotra added, "On September 27 hop-on-hop-off bus would take tourists for free to various places in the city.

Subhash Ghosh and Raga Boyz would also perform during the week. And to add a traditional touch to the festivities, there would be Punjabi singer Sherry Maan, pepping up the evenings."
